We Earned Our Class Reward!

We earned our class reward!! We went 3 days with out anyone getting a step, nor did we get a class step. (Steps are a part of our school discipline system). So they chose their reward which was to have Friday the 26th be a dress up day and as you can see they dressed up as twins, triplets and quintuplets. It was a lot of fun! :) Keep up the great work class! ~ Miss Warren

The Oregon Trail

For Social Studies we are studying the Oregon Trail. The students are working in groups which simulate wagon trains. Each student has an identity, possibly a family and a wagon that they travel with. We have 4 wagon trains with 6-7 people per train. Each train also has a wagon master that controls the group. Today 9/22/2008 they had to decide what to bring with them in their individual wagons. They used uni fix cubes to be able to see and compare the size/amount and weight/space objects would take up in their wagons. The items they can choose from are shown on the list in the image and they are weighted by BWU (bulk weight units) each cube was one unit. For example, a hammer was 2 BWU (2 cubes) and a cooking stove was 75 BWU (75 cubes). They had to ultimately decided what was going to ultimate for survival and could only fit 1000 BWU in their wagon.

Art Time!

We started our first art project this past week. The students filled out a Multiple Intelligences Inventory and then added up their scores for each category. Their scores then were multiplied by 2 to give them a number to work with. They took these numbers and followed the directions and used them to make the dimensions of their faces. For example, if there Spatial Intelligence score was 7 they would times that by 2 to get 14. Then their eyes would be 14 centimeters apart in their drawing. They had a great time and came up with some creative faces! :)

Riddles

9-4-2008
Hello!!! If you know me or have had me as a teacher before you know that I love riddles. They are fun and educational at the same time. Today I shared my favorite riddle with my 6th grade class: What can you put in a barrel to make it lighter??? A Hole!!!

Garrett gave me a riddle challenge: What gets wetter the more it dries??? A Towel!!! I met the challenge because I was able to come up with the answer. So then he challenged me again: What goes up but never leaves the ground??? I still have not come up with the answer. hmmm

Class.....This is my next riddle for you:

Give me food and I will live; give me water and I will die. What am I???

Excellent job Matthew!! He said that the answer is fire and he was correct!

Well I have been challenged again with a riddle. This time it was by Matthew. He asks: How can you have 10 trees, in 5 rows with 4 trees in a row?? My solution, though I don't know it its correct yet: You have the trees in a star shape. At a point or an intersection of the lines is a tree. Correct??!!

Dear Students,

I am so excited to hear that so many of you are viewing our class blog. If you have any ideas of things that we can add please let me know. I have another riddle challenge for you: What can you catch, but not throw?

Sincerely,

Miss Warren
