Social Studies "REGIONS" of the U.S.

We started our S.S. project this week! First, they did a scavenger hunt to learn about and find the text-features in their "Regions" text-book. Each student was given a book to take to and from school each day. They were then put into 5 groups, one group for each of the 5 regions of the U.S. They then focused on finding information in the specific state text-book that they were given. Each student was given 2-3 text-books from the public libraries to keep with them and bring to school everyday. These are pictures of our "Regions" teams:

ART

We have been working hard on our art to put on display for the upcoming art auction. We created Bioglyphs, wrote our names in Hieroglyphics and wrote an Auto-bio poem about ourselves. We use crumpled up paper bags and oil pastels with an abstract form to create our art.
Here are some pictures of us in the work process:

Back To Work

The play was a huge success!! It was a lot of fun and hard work but now we are getting back to our normal schedule. We will be spending some extra time on math, reading and writing to help prepare for the upcomming WASL. We have new spelling packets that will be introduced on Tuesday the 17th. Parent signatures are no longer required, however they will have spelling practice each night. A parent information letter about spelling will be sent home and is due, signed, on Friday the 20th.
Along with some work changes our classroom has gone through some changes. We have a new seating arrangement that the students helped to create. I also added a computer area and a quiet work/reading area. There is a flash drive available and 3 computers so the students may begin to type their work during or after school. Please feel free to come on in at any time and check it out!
